A police officer and an assailant were killed in a shooting in Montreal

In Montreal, Canada, a police officer, a civilian, and an armed assailant were killed in a shooting. Another law enforcement officer was seriously injured but is in stable condition.

The incident occurred in the afternoon in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood, one of the city’s most densely populated and multicultural areas.

According to investigators, the attacker likely acted alone; witnesses saw a weapon in a building window, and numerous gunshots were heard.

Police confirmed that the suspect was killed at the scene. The motives for the attack are currently unknown.

Among the dead are 34-year-old police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, who had been on the force since 2021; civilian Michael Moshe Mizrahi, described by the community as a “beloved member of the community”; and the attacker himself.

Quebec’s Minister of Public Safety, Yann Lafrénier, stated that the cause of the attack has not yet been determined. Montreal Police Chief Fadi Dagher called the incident “a horror.”

“A horror,” is how the police chief described the incident.

Following the shooting in Montreal, traffic on highways was temporarily halted, the metro was suspended, and an emergency alert was issued due to an armed assailant (later canceled).

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was “shocked” by the tragedy and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the attacker’s motives, the circumstances surrounding the planning and execution of the attack, and any possible connections or causes of the incident.

The incident is already considered one of the most high-profile events in Montreal in recent decades.

This was reported by the BBC.

Earlier, in the French department of Eure-et-Loir, an 82-year-old man engaged in a shootout with law enforcement officers, resulting in two gendarmes sustaining leg injuries.

In the village of Letychiv in the Khmelnytskyi region, law enforcement officers detained a 31-year-old local resident who opened fire with an automatic weapon near the regional recruitment and social support center.
