NATO stated that its support for Ukraine remains unchanged following Drapato's appointment
NATO stated that the appointment of Mykhailo Drapaty as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not entail any changes in military cooperation, and the Alliance’s strategy for supporting Ukraine remains unchanged.
Giovanni Galoforo, advisor to the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on Public Affairs and Strategic Communications, made this statement in a comment to “Suspilne,” according to “European Truth.”
According to Galoforo, personnel rotations occur constantly. “Of course, no changes in military cooperation are expected, since personnel rotations occur constantly, and the Alliance’s support strategy is clear and unwavering,” he noted.
The NATO representative also said that he has not yet met with Drapaty in person but is looking forward to such a meeting.
On the evening of July 21, after six days of protests, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the dismissal of Oleksandr Syrskyi from his post as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and announced the appointment of Mykhailo Drapatiy to replace him. The following day, Drapaty announced that he had received a directive from the president to continue and intensify offensive operations and to build up the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On the same day, decrees regarding the change in the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were published on the president’s website.
