Police rescue abducted woman in Sapele, Nigeria

Police in Nigeria's Delta State reported the rescue of a woman who was abducted in the Amukpe area of Sapele. According to law enforcement officials, she was not injured and has already been reunited with her family.

Abduction near the house

As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Delta State police spokesperson Bright Edafe said the woman was abducted on Wednesday near her home in Amukpe. According to him, she was trying to drive her car into the grounds of her residence when the attackers, who were waiting near the entrance, abducted her.

Edafe also said that the attackers fired several shots into the air before taking the woman to nearby bushland.

Search in the bushland

After the attack was reported, the head of the police division in Sapele deployed patrol and surveillance teams to the scene. There, law enforcement officers found spent AK-47 ammunition casings.

Police officers, supported by local vigilantes, began searching the surrounding bushland, which continued throughout the night until the following morning. According to the police spokesperson, on Thursday morning the abductors abandoned the woman and fled after sensing danger.

Police said they had intensified efforts to locate and arrest the attackers. Delta State Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale praised the work of law enforcement officers and local vigilantes and said he intended to continue intelligence-led operations against kidnappers, members of cult groups and other criminals in the state.
