APC and ADC supporters report clashes in Nigeria’s Kaduna State
Clashes between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) have been reported in Nigeria’s Kaduna State. The sides accused each other of attacks, damage to vehicles, party offices and campaign materials, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
ADC’s claims of an attack
ADC candidate for the Kaduna State House of Assembly from the Zangon-Kataf constituency Manasseh Istifanus said supporters of his party were attacked near a toll gate in Dakande. According to him, people had gathered peacefully to welcome the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Isa Ashiru, after his return from Umrah, when they were allegedly attacked.
Istifanus called on security agencies to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable. He said political activity should be based on ideas, service, persuasion and the will of voters, rather than violence, intimidation and political thuggery.
ADC member Awal Gezawa wrote on Facebook that vehicles belonging to supporters waiting for Ashiru near the town of Maraban-Jos were damaged by people who arrived in Hilux vehicles and a bus. The party displayed several damaged cars and linked this to the alleged attack. ADC also reported an attack on its team in Dakande on the way to Kaduna.

Mutual accusations by the parties
Damage to political posters and banners was also reported in different parts of the state, including materials featuring Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Tinubu, as well as opposition campaign materials.
The APC’s Kaduna State chapter, for its part, condemned what it described as attacks on its members and vandalism of party offices and support group offices. Party spokesperson Sani Dan Azare said vehicles were damaged on party premises, while APC members and supporters were allegedly attacked and intimidated in other parts of the state. The party called on the police and other security agencies to impartially examine all claims and evidence and asked its supporters not to resort to retaliation.
Reports of the incidents emerged amid intensified political competition ahead of the 2027 elections. Ashiru, who ran for governor in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party, now represents the ADC, while Governor Uba Sani is seeking re-election under the APC. The sides’ claims have not been independently confirmed; as of Tuesday, there was also no public information about identified suspects or arrests.
