Pakistan orders detention of Imran Khan’s sister for 30 days — Dawn

In Lahore, Pakistan, the city’s deputy commissioner issued an order for the detention or arrest for 30 days of Aleema Khan, the sister of imprisoned former prime minister and founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party Imran Khan. PTI said that Aleema Khan was detained by authorities.

Lahore administration’s order

According to Dawn, the order was issued on September 20 by Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz. The document provides for the detention or arrest of Aleema Khan and Muhammad Amir under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance of 1960.

According to the text of the order, those detained are to be placed in the custody of the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Central Jail in Lahore. They may also submit a petition to the provincial government regarding this decision.

PTI statement

PTI said on social media platform X that authorities took Aleema Khan from near her home in Lahore. The party’s central information secretary, Sheikh Waqas Akram, demanded that she be brought before a court immediately and said she was being punished for speaking out in support of her brother.

Police did not immediately comment in response to Dawn’s inquiry about the matter.
