North Korean defector found dead in South Korea
In the city of Paju in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, the body of a woman who had previously left the DPRK was found. She was discovered in an apartment on Wednesday at 10:55 a.m. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition. As The Korea Herald reports, police believe the woman died in early August.
Investigation and suspect
Police launched an investigation after discovering signs that may indicate a crime. Law enforcement officers suspect the woman’s boyfriend of involvement in her death. According to police, he left the country in August last year. Law enforcement has requested Interpol’s cooperation.

According to local broadcaster YTN, the woman was under police protection as a former North Korean defector. She left the DPRK earlier this year.
During the initial stages of settling in South Korea, DPRK defectors must maintain regular contact with law enforcement and receive protection from them. Police had been unable to contact the woman for about a month. Officers then arrived at her residence, forcibly entered it and found the body.
