In Poland, tourists from the U.S. and Canada were detained for trespassing at Auschwitz

Nine U.S. and Canadian citizens who illegally entered the grounds of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau have been detained in Poland.

This was reported by RMF24.

The incident occurred on April 20. Employees of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum noticed a group of young men who, without admission tickets, pushed aside a fence and entered the memorial complex. Museum staff had previously warned them that entry was permitted only with tickets.

Police were called to the scene, detained the intruders, and took them to the police station in Oświęcim. According to law enforcement, the detainees—citizens of the United States and Canada aged 18–19—are of Jewish descent.

They were charged with illegally entering the grounds of the former Nazi camp. The men pleaded guilty and agreed to voluntary punishment.

Under an agreement with the prosecutor’s office, each of them was fined 3,000 zlotys and ordered to pay mandatory compensation to the museum in the amount of 1,000 zlotys.

As a reminder, dozens of well-known tourist attractions in China are temporarily imposing visitor limits or suspending ticket sales due to reaching maximum capacity. These measures have been introduced amid growing demand for travel in the country.
