In Russia, a woman was sentenced to 24 years in prison in a treason case

The 2nd Eastern District Military Court sentenced Kateryna Malovechkina, a resident of Krasnokamensk, to 24 years in a general-regime penal colony. She was found guilty of treason, sabotage, participation in a terrorist organization, the illegal manufacture and storage of explosives, and money laundering.

According to the investigation and the court, in early 2025, Malovekhina established contact with the “Freedom of Russia Legion.” From March through June, she allegedly distributed flyers bearing the organization’s symbols in Krasnokamensk. Subsequently, the woman allegedly agreed, for money, to undergo training and carry out a sabotage operation on the railroad.

Investigators claim that between May and August 2025, Malovechkina manufactured at least two homemade explosive devices. The explosive power of one of them was estimated at approximately 5 kg of TNT equivalent.

On August 24, according to the court, she placed the explosive device between the railroad ties on the Trans-Baikal Railway and detonated it. The explosion destroyed two reinforced concrete railroad ties and damaged a railcar.

During the court hearing, Malovechkina fully admitted her guilt. In addition to the 24-year prison sentence, she was ordered to pay fines and serve two years of probation following her release.

Prior to the criminal case, 51-year-old Malovechkina worked as a social worker at the “Dobrota” juvenile rehabilitation center, as well as a sales representative for several companies. In 2016, she sought employment at the Arbitration Court, and in 2021, she ran for the position of head of the Soktuy-Milozansky rural settlement.

This is reported by Russian propaganda media.
