Singapore’s MRT network reliability reached a record in August
In Singapore, the average distance travelled by MRT network trains between delays caused by faults reached a record 2.88 million train-kilometres in August. The figure covers the entire network except for the Thomson-East Coast Line, where construction, expansion and systems integration works are ongoing.
As Channel NewsAsia reports, the data were released by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA). In July, the average distance between faults was 2.37 million train-kilometres. The previous record of 2.627 million train-kilometres was recorded in June 2024.
Delays and calculation methodology
The LTA calculates the average distance between faults indicator using a 12-month rolling average. It shows the average distance a train travels before a delay lasting more than five minutes. In August, this indicator exceeded 2 million train-kilometres for the fifth consecutive month.
In the MRT network excluding the Thomson-East Coast Line, no delays lasting more than 30 minutes were recorded in August either. This was the tenth consecutive month without such incidents, the longest period since the LTA began keeping these statistics in 2011.

Results of individual lines
All five long-operating MRT lines either improved or maintained their performance in August. On the Downtown Line, the average distance between faults nearly doubled, from 4.2 million to 8.37 million train-kilometres. On the Circle Line, it increased from 2.45 million to 2.51 million, while on the North East Line it rose from 4.47 million to 4.48 million train-kilometres.
On the North-South Line, the figure was unchanged at 1.65 million train-kilometres. The East-West Line improved from 2.02 million in July to 2.52 million in August. On the Thomson-East Coast Line, the average distance between faults increased from 373,000 to 415,000 train-kilometres.
Other indicators declined slightly. The fulfilment of the planned train service volume across the entire network stood at 99.62%, compared with 99.71% in July, while punctuality was 99.03%, compared with 99.29%. Punctuality is defined as the share of services that reached their terminal station no more than two minutes off schedule.
