In the US, a school principal stopped an armed attacker and protected the students - The Guardian
An emergency situation unfolded in Oklahoma that could have turned into a tragedy had it not been for the school principal’s quick reaction. Kirk Moore, the principal of a school in Pauls Valley, shielded the students with his own body and single-handedly disarmed a 20-year-old former student who was carrying two semi-automatic pistols.

An emergency occurred in Oklahoma that could have become one of the bloodiest school tragedies in the U.S. had it not been for the school principal’s immediate reaction. Pols Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore personally disarmed a 20-year-old former student armed with two semi-automatic pistols.
The incident occurred on April 7 at approximately 2:20 p.m. local time. The assailant, Victor Lee Hawkins, burst into the school lobby shouting “Everyone on the ground” and pointed his weapon at one of the students. Fortunately, the bullet did not hit the girl. Noticing the danger from his office, Kirk Moore rushed out into the hall without hesitation and lunged at the attacker just as he was aiming at another student.
During the struggle, Hawkins managed to fire several shots, one of which struck the principal in the right leg. Despite his injury, Moore, along with a colleague who came to his aid, managed to subdue the attacker before the police arrived.
“I have no doubt that he saved the children’s lives,” said local police chief Don May.
Investigators determined that the attacker was obsessed with the 1999 Columbine High School mass shooting. According to Special Agent Merick Musset, Hawkins stole a gun from his father and planned to “carry out his own school shooting, just like the killers did at Columbine.” It also emerged that the attacker had a personal grudge against the principal.
The heroic teacher himself is now recovering after being hospitalized.
“Like many educators across the country, we prepare for such events through training and careful threat assessments. I am grateful that my instincts and training, as well as the hand of God, were with me,” Kirk Moore said in a statement.
Hawkins is currently in custody. He faces charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm. His court date is set for May 8, and his bail is set at $1 million.
