The U-MAV floating unmanned system for troop deployment was unveiled in Turkey

The Turkish defense company FNSS has unveiled a new amphibious ground robotics system called the U-MAV (Multi-Purpose Modular Unmanned Amphibious Vehicle)

The system was first unveiled at the TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan 2026 exhibition

The platform was developed for use during the first wave of an amphibious assault—its primary mission is to weaken enemy defenses prior to the landing of personnel and major equipment.

The U-MAV weighs approximately 8 metric tons. Once launched into the water, the vehicle is capable of traveling independently to the shore.

The platform’s maximum speed:

  • on water—up to 7 knots;
  • on land—up to 70 km/h.

One of the U-MAV’s key features is its modular design. Replacing equipment directly in the field takes about 40 minutes.

Thanks to this, the platform can be adapted for at least 10 types of missions. These include fire support, mine clearance, electronic warfare, and evacuation of the wounded.

The U-MAV can operate in fully autonomous, remotely controlled, or combined modes.

An inertial navigation system allows the platform to determine its location even in the event of a loss or significant degradation of the satellite signal.

The U-MAV’s standard communication range is up to 3 km. If necessary, this range can be extended using aerial drones.

If communication is lost, the platform first switches to safe mode. Depending on the configured settings, it can either automatically return to base along a preprogrammed route or continue executing its navigation mission.

For rapid deployment over long distances, the platform is compatible with heavy transport helicopters and military transport aircraft.

Among the announced transport platforms are the CH-47F Chinook, Mi-26, C-130 Hercules, A400M, C-17 Globemaster, C-5 Galaxy, An-124 “Ruslan,” and Il-76.

Thus, the U-MAV combines amphibious capabilities, autonomous navigation, and modular equipment, allowing the platform to be used for various missions during amphibious operations.

In addition, the Turkish ANKA III strike drone is gradually transitioning to a higher level of autonomy. TUSAŞ released footage of its flight, showing the drone in a “flying wing” configuration flying alongside two jet-powered UAVs mounted under its wings.

As a reminder, Uber Technologies and Zipline have agreed to launch autonomous delivery of Uber Eats orders using drones in the U.S. The first such deliveries are scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.

The Ukrainian company BlueBird Tech has unveiled the “Bebradron-M”—an airframe-type drone designed to train pilots and operators of interceptor drones.
