The mine is located near Izmir
The mine is located in Manisa province, about 100 kilometres northeast of the resort city of Izmir. Türkiye's justice minister had previously said that after the accident, two workers were rescued, two were killed, and three remained trapped in the mine.
Soma was also the site of Türkiye's deadliest mining disaster: in 2014, 301 miners died of carbon monoxide poisoning after an underground fire caused by an explosion.
