Russian propaganda tent removed outside US Embassy in Warsaw; owner hospitalized

In Warsaw, a tent displaying Russian propaganda slogans that had stood opposite the US Embassy for over a year was removed. Andrzej Zakrzewski, leader of the nationalist movement Sovereignty of the Polish People, who had set up the tent, was sent to a psychiatric hospital for treatment, Gazeta Wyborcza reported.

The tent had been broadcasting Russian and anti-Ukrainian propaganda since 17 September 2024. For a long time, it could not be removed due to the right of assembly, which, according to Warsaw City Hall spokeswoman Monika Byt, would have violated the Polish Constitution.

The tent was finally dismantled on 20 November 2025 because of gas cylinders inside. Jakub Dybalski, press secretary of the City Road Authority, explained that the cylinders posed a threat to the lives of local residents. Additionally, the tent had become “effectively an illegal occupation of the road lane.”

When police, municipal, and fire services moved to dismantle the tent, Zakrzewski resisted. Medical personnel arrived at the scene, and he was sent to the Psychiatric Clinic of Warsaw Medical University.

The tent had been used to spread not only Russian and anti-Ukrainian propaganda but also anti-Semitic slogans. Activists handed out leaflets portraying Vladimir Putin as a victim of the war in Ukraine and blaming European institutions and politicians for the conflict.

Slogans displayed on the tent included: “Unprincipled, stop turning us against the Russians!”, “Anti-Polish sentiment of the US and Israel,” and “Should Poland become a second Palestine?”

Zakrzewski is known for his support of Alexander Lukashenko. His movement, Sovereignty of the Polish People, advocates for Poland leaving NATO and cooperating with Russia.
