President Donald Trump’s administration has presented a design for a 76-meter-tall triumphal arch to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. The structure is planned to be erected in Washington, D.C., at the Memorial Interchange near the Arlington Memorial Bridge.

This was reported by The New York Times.

The Commission will review the project at its meeting next week.

Trump proposed building the arch, which would rise at a roundabout in Washington on the opposite bank of the river from the Lincoln Memorial, as a way to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and cement his legacy as president.

In the renderings, the arch is depicted with two eagles and a golden winged angel at the top, somewhat reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. On one side of the arch, the words "One Nation Under God" are visible, and on the other, "Liberty and Justice for All."

Trump unveiled models of the proposed arch last October at a fundraising dinner dedicated to another of his projects to transform Washington’s skyline—the planned $400 million White House ballroom.

The president said at the time that the angel atop the models was the Statue of Liberty.

The presentation of the arch project took place as Democrats criticized the president for accepting foreign donations for the construction of the ballroom.

A group of Vietnam War veterans also filed a lawsuit to stop the construction of the arch, citing congressional authority and arguing that the arch would block the view between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the state reception hall, for which the historic East Wing of the White House was demolished, is scheduled to be completed in about a year and a half.

The White House has set a condition for discussing the peace plan with Europeans.

Recall that French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the U.S. “peace plan” for Ukraine requires further refinement and coordination with European partners.

Marco Rubio also stated that the “peace plan” for Ukraine is based on proposals from Russia and Ukraine.
