A train derailed in Wickford, Essex; there were no injuries
At Wickford Station in Essex, in eastern England, the rear cars of a Greater Anglia train derailed. The British Transport Police reported that the cars remained upright; there were no reports of injuries.
Due to the incident, all tracks between Wickford and Southend-Victoria were closed. Trains between London’s Liverpool Street Station and Southend-Victoria were unable to run. National Rail warned of significant service disruptions, which were expected to continue until further notice.
Inspectors from the UK’s Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) arrived at the scene to collect evidence. A representative of the rail operator stated that experts are investigating the circumstances of the incident and providing the necessary assistance.

The incident occurred less than a day after another train derailment near Lewes in East Sussex. There, several cars of a Southern train traveling from London to Eastbourne derailed and tipped onto their sides. About 150 people were on board the train and were evacuated.
Two people were taken to trauma centers with serious injuries following the accident in East Sussex. The British Transport Police later reported that these injuries were not considered life-threatening. The section of track between Lewis and Haywards Heath remained closed for emergency response, repairs, and investigation.
John Whitehurst, CEO of Greater Thameslink Railway—the company that operates Southern—said that four train crew members helped ensure safety on the tracks and assisted passengers during the evacuation. The RAIB is also conducting an investigation into the accident near Lewis.
