Diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict between the U.S. and Iran are in danger of collapsing due to the American leader’s public actions.
According to CNN, the U.S. president has disregarded the advice of his advisors and begun discussing the details of the negotiations through the press and social media, sparking a wave of outrage in Tehran.
In his statements, Donald Trump claimed that the Iranian side had allegedly already accepted a number of key conditions that were actually still under discussion.
In particular, the U.S. president announced Iran’s readiness to transfer enriched uranium to Washington and declared the “inevitable” end of the war.
Such premature announcements from the White House led Iranian officials to publicly refute the American leader’s claims.
Tehran even denied preparations for the next round of negotiations, which instantly dispelled the international community’s optimism regarding the imminent signing of a peace agreement.
Sources within the administration acknowledge that the public rhetoric chosen by the U.S. president has seriously damaged the diplomatic process.
The main problem has been the Iranian side’s deep mistrust of Washington, which was only exacerbated by statements about agreements that had allegedly already been signed.
“The Iranians did not like that the U.S. president conducted negotiations via social media and gave the impression that they had already signed off on decisions regarding issues they had not yet agreed to and which are unpopular among their people at home,” a well-informed official told reporters.
