Syrian President to Attend G7 Summit for the First Time — Reuters

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has received an official invitation to attend the G7 summit, which will be held in France this year.

This was reported by Reuters, citing its own informed sources.

This will be the first time in history since the diplomatic forum was founded in 1975 that a representative of the Syrian Arab Republic will join a meeting of this elite club.

According to the agency’s sources, the invitation for al-Sharaa was personally delivered to Syrian Finance Minister Isra Barnier during his visit to Paris for G7 financial talks.

Thanks to this diplomatic move, the Syrian leader will officially attend the G7 summit, scheduled for June 15–17 in Évian-les-Bains in southeastern France.

This information has now been confirmed by three independent sources who are familiar with the details of the preparations for the international meeting.

The main goal of involving Damascus in the summit is to reshape global logistics routes amid the prolonged blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

A Syrian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that the country’s participation in the talks will likely focus on its role as a “potential strategic hub for supply chains.”

Following the end of its 14-year civil war, Syria is positioning itself as a reliable ally of the West in the Middle East.

Syria’s recovery is at risk, depending on who controls the country

Damascus-based Syria analyst Omar Abu Layla stated that the key task for the Syrian authorities now is to build a strong central government capable of governing all of the country’s communities without creating separate or privileged political regimes.
