Meloni's government has proposed changing Italy's electoral system — Bloomberg

The government of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has introduced a bill to reform the electoral system. The bill provides for additional parliamentary seats for the winning coalition if it secures more than 42% of the vote.

According to Bloomberg, the initiative aims to create a more stable majority in parliament after the elections.

The bill would also require parties and coalitions to officially designate a candidate for prime minister in advance when submitting their electoral lists.

To take effect, the bill must be approved by both chambers of the Italian parliament.

Giorgia Meloni stated that she intends to maintain the government’s stability until the end of her term.

“Consistency and stability are a great opportunity for Italy. I will do everything possible to maintain this stability until the end of my term,” the prime minister said.

Italy is offering security guarantees for Ukraine based on the NATO model.

As a reminder, Meloni: It is too early to talk about returningto Russian gas.
