A fire broke out in an industrial zone in Angarsk near an oil refinery and two thermal power plants
On the morning of August 11, a fire broke out in Angarsk, Irkutsk Oblast, Russia, in the industrial and warehouse area of a former protein-vitamin concentrate plant. Local social media groups are reporting the fire, and an oil refinery and two thermal power plants are located nearby.
According to eyewitnesses, due to the dense concentration of industrial facilities, it is currently difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the fire. Among the possibilities being discussed by local residents are the Angarsk Oil Refinery, as well as CHPP-9 and CHPP-10.
The Angarsk Oil Refinery is part of the Angarsk Petrochemical Company (ANHK), which is a subsidiary of Russia’s Rosneft. The facility has a capacity of approximately 10 million metric tons of crude oil per year. The refinery produces, among other things, gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and other petrochemical products.
Located near the industrial zone is Thermal Power Plant No. 9, which supplies heat, steam, and electricity to ANHK’s industrial facilities and the city of Angarsk. Another large power plant—Thermal Power Plant No. 10—is located in the southern part of the city.
However, there is currently no official confirmation as to which specific facility caught fire. There is also no information regarding the cause of the fire or its possible consequences. Angarsk is located approximately 4,500 km from the nearest point in Ukraine.
Earlier, the General Staff confirmed a strike on the TANECO oil refinery in Tatarstan.
As a reminder, a Russian attack on the Poltava region damaged a gas station and a factory.
In Dnipro on Friday, August 7, a World Health Organization humanitarian warehouse was destroyed as a result of an attack. At the time of the strike, there were no people on the premises, and no casualties were reported.
Over the past 24 hours, the occupiers lost 1,130 troops and more than 400 pieces of military equipment.
In the Kherson region, one person was killed and two were wounded as a result of Russian shelling.
