Islamabad plans double-decker electric bus route — Dawn
In Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to launch a tourist route served by double-decker buses. At the initial stage, four buses are planned for a 25-kilometre city tour, Dawn reports.
Route through the city
According to the publication’s sources, the route is to start from F-9 Park and cover key locations in Islamabad, including Faisal Mosque, the Lok Virsa cultural centre and Shakarparian.
The CDA has approached Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) to obtain a feasibility study and an estimate for purchasing the buses. A CDA representative said that, if the plan is implemented, the service could begin operating within three months.

Bus procurement
No final decision on purchasing the vehicles has been made yet. The CDA is awaiting HIT’s conclusions and does not rule out importing buses from China, as a contractor previously did when procuring 160 electric buses.
A CDA representative also said the double-decker buses are planned to be electric and environmentally friendly. HIT’s website states that the enterprise specialises in the design, manufacture, assembly and testing of modern electric buses.
Currently, the CDA already operates more than 160 electric buses in Islamabad through a contractor on more than 20 routes. The publication also notes that the authority had previously repeatedly announced plans to launch a tram in the city, but the project was never implemented.
