A bar collapsed in Spain; up to 30 people may be trapped under the rubble
A bar collapsed in the Spanish province of La Rioja on the morning of October 3. Eleven people were hospitalized as a result of the incident.
The collapse occurred in the town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra at approximately 5:25 a.m.
According to preliminary reports, between 25 and 30 people were inside the bar at the time of the collapse. Some of the patrons were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
Emergency services arrived at the scene promptly. Rescuers had to extract people from under the rubble of the bar.
Firefighters also searched the site of the collapse to ensure that no one else was trapped under the rubble.
According to the rescued patrons, the floor of the bar collapsed first, followed by the ceiling.
As a result of the incident, 11 people were hospitalized. The authorities’ statement did not mention any fatalities.
After the main rescue operations were completed, police launched an investigation into the causes of the collapse.
Law enforcement officials must determine what exactly caused the collapse of the bar’s structure and whether technical or other factors could have affected the building’s condition.
