Poll in Israel records growing support for negotiations among Palestinians
In Israel, 55.8% of surveyed Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip named peace negotiations as the best way to achieve national goals. The share of supporters of armed resistance was 13.3%, according to the results of a survey by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Centre conducted jointly with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post.
The study covered 1,200 respondents in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and was conducted from August 20 to 25, 2026. In 2023, 37.1% of respondents considered armed resistance the most effective tool for achieving Palestinian national goals, while 28% supported negotiations.
Attitudes toward the October 7 attack
In August, 15.7% of respondents said that the October 7 attack served Palestinian national interests. By comparison, 30.9% held this view in September 2025, and 45% in September 2024. At the same time, 50.1% of respondents in the West Bank and 35.2% of Gaza Strip residents said that Hamas’ actions had harmed national interests.
Support for a two-state model to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict rose to 47.9%, compared with 27.3% in September 2023. The share of those who prefer the creation of a single Palestinian state in place of Israel fell from 24.7% to 18.6%.

Sentiment regarding elections and parties
Only 28.8% of respondents in the West Bank expect elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council to take place in November. Another 35.5% believe the vote will be postponed, while 22.4% expect it to be canceled. At the same time, 46.8% of respondents believe elections will improve the situation for Palestinians, while 46.4% expect it to worsen or remain unchanged.
According to the survey, 27.5% of respondents are ready to vote for Fatah, and 7.6% for Hamas. Trust in Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was expressed by 6.9% of study participants. The most important priority for 50.1% of respondents was ending the war in Gaza; 16.9% chose improving the economic situation, and 13.4% chose rebuilding Gaza.
39.6% of survey participants believe that the Palestinian Authority may cease to exist. At the same time, 69.4% said that preserving it is important, while 23% consider its dissolution the better option.
