Video: Clashes with police broke out in Bucharest during a farmers' protest
In Bucharest, the capital of Romania, a farmers’ protest escalated into clashes with law enforcement. Police used tear gas against the demonstrators.
On the morning of September 15, the protesters—farmers who raise livestock—began gathering at Victory Square in Bucharest to voice their grievances, including, among other things, the ban on sheep and goat exports and unpaid compensation. Later, they blocked traffic on a nearby street.
Soon after, reports emerged of clashes with law enforcement and the use of tear gas.
The Bucharest Gendarmerie stated that from the outset, some protesters refused to surrender items that could be used as weapons. Tear gas was deployed after the situation escalated, when some people began throwing objects at law enforcement officers and knocking down barriers.

It is reported that three protesters required medical attention after being exposed to tear gas; they were treated on the spot. No law enforcement officers were injured.
Two people involved in the incidents were taken to the police station.
The Bucharest Police also denied claims that police were allegedly turning back buses carrying protesters at the entrance to Bucharest.
