A second evacuation flight carrying the crew of the MV Hondius has departed from Tenerife for the Netherlands
The second evacuation flight carrying crew members of the cruise ship MV Hondius, on which an outbreak of hantavirus was detected, departed from the Spanish island of Tenerife for the Netherlands.
This was reported with reference to NOS.
“The second Dutch evacuation flight carrying crew members of the cruise ship MV Hondius has departed from Tenerife. On board the plane are 19 crew members of the MV Hondius: 17 Filipinos, one German, and one Dutch citizen. A doctor and two epidemiologists who were on board the ship are also on this flight,” the report states.
It is noted that the flight was delayed due to strong winds, which complicated the evacuation. The plane is expected to arrive at Eindhoven Airport tonight. After that, all evacuees must undergo a medical examination and enter a mandatory six-week home quarantine.
Earlier, the Dutch government evacuated its citizens who were on board the ship from Tenerife on a special flight. Australia also organized a separate flight for some of the passengers.
The hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius occurred while the ship was crossing the Atlantic Ocean from South America. Two Dutch citizens and one German national died as a result of the infection. Two more passengers, from the U.S. and France, have tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, 12 employees of the Dutch Radboudumc hospital were also placed in preventive quarantine after coming into contact with an infected patient.
The MV Hondius is currently heading to Rotterdam, where it is to be disinfected.
Four Ukrainian citizens remainon board the MV Hondius.
