Harris to campaign for El-Sayed in Michigan, media reports — The Hill
According to media reports, former US Vice President Kamala Harris will take part next week in a campaign event for Democratic US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. As The Hill reports, the Associated Press said that on Tuesday Harris and El-Sayed will hold a roundtable focused on Black maternal health.
Support for the candidate
El-Sayed is a physician and previously headed the health departments of Detroit and Wayne County. Harris spokesperson Eduardo Negron told the Associated Press that she plans to return to Michigan to boost voter turnout in this critically important state. According to him, Democrats seek to win a Senate majority in order, among other things, to lower prices.
El-Sayed told Politico that he is looking forward to Harris' visit. According to him, residents of communities such as Detroit see her as an inspiring leader. He also noted that Black maternal health is an issue that both he and Harris have worked on. The candidate added that the conversations should help increase voter turnout.

Race for the Senate seat
In August, Harris endorsed El-Sayed in his campaign against Republican Mike Rogers, a Michigan member of the House of Representatives. In her endorsement statement, she criticized the policies of President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress and stressed the need to win a Democratic Senate majority in November.
The event will take place one week after Rogers declined to participate in a debate with El-Sayed organized by Fox 2 Detroit. Rogers said that he had not agreed to the debate and accused moderator Roop Raj of bias in favor of his opponent. Raj denied this. El-Sayed spoke during the hour-long debate beside an empty lectern.
