An unnamed country purchased European JSM cruise missiles for $472 million

The Norwegian corporation KONGSBERG has signed a contract worth 4.7 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately 472 million U.S. dollars) to supply Joint Strike Missiles (JSM) to an unnamed country.

The new customer has become the sixth country in the world to select this weapon for its fighter jet fleet, following Norway, Japan, Australia, the United States, and Germany. This was reported by an official source at Kongsberg, the company that developed this fifth-generation weapon system to counter modern air defense systems. The air-launched variant is based on the NSM naval missile and is capable of highly accurate strikes against both surface and ground targets.

The latest missile has a total weight of 416 kg, a length of 4 meters, and is equipped with a 120-kilogram warhead. The JSM has a range of 350 kilometers, and its flight path follows a low-altitude trajectory that takes advantage of the features of the marine and land terrain. The weapon is fully certified for use on F-16 C/D aircraft, and its integration with F-35A fighter jets has been underway since July 2018. The cruise missile features an advanced mission planning system and a modern infrared seeker with a visualization function for automatic target recognition.

Belgium plans to purchase Norwegian-made cruise missiles for its new F-35 fighter jets at a cost of approximately 700 million euros.

Earlier, Sweden decided to allocate a $683 million military aid package to Ukraine. This was the 15th aid package and, at the time, a record for that country.
