Nvidia founder Huang on US-China cooperation on AI — South China Morning Post

Nvidia founder Jensen Huang called on the United States and China to improve communication and cooperate to reduce risks associated with artificial intelligence. Speaking at the Korea Society, he said that competition between the countries does not preclude cooperation in technology safety.

Huang stressed that AI has significant potential to bring benefits, but dialogue and cooperation are needed to prevent harm. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

AI safety and the Nvidia platform

According to Huang, the response to AI risks should not be restraining technology, but accelerating the development of safety tools. He compared this approach to the evolution of cars: over time, they acquired airbags, sensors, and collision-prevention systems.

Earlier the same day, Huang said that Nvidia, together with more than 100 partners, had introduced the Open Agent Safety Platform. According to him, the proposed platform is intended to allow companies to track every action of AI agents and apply established rules.

Nvidia’s access to the Chinese market

Commenting on the situation in China, Huang noted that the country’s authorities may be interested in creating conditions for local companies to develop without competition from Nvidia. At the same time, he stressed that a shortage of computing capacity would hold back China’s digital economy.

According to The Information, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology considered allowing the country’s largest technology companies to purchase Nvidia chips again. Huang said he did not know how the situation would develop, but Nvidia seeks to compete in the global market.

Data center construction

The Nvidia chief also acknowledged that the technology industry could have better explained plans to build data centers to communities. He called for involving local residents in discussions of such projects and giving them an opportunity to be part of the industry’s success and prosperity.
