A journalist from Buryatia was sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of treason
The Supreme Court of Buryatia sentenced Vasilisa Shishkina, a journalist for the regional publication “Number One,” to 12 years in a general-regime penal colony on charges of treason.
The Novosibirsk Court of Appeals upheld the sentence, changing only the method for calculating time spent in pretrial detention: instead of the “one day for one and a half days” formula, the “one day for one day” formula will now be applied.
According to her attorney, Vasily Dubkov, Shishkina has been in custody since July 17, 2025. The specific charges against her have not been officially disclosed. The journalist is currently being held at Pretrial Detention Center No. 1 in Novosibirsk.
