Meloni Is Losing Support Among Young People Due to Harsh Laws – Reuters
According to polls by the Youtrend agency, the center-right coalition led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is losing significant support among young people aged 18–34. Currently, less than 30% of young voters support the ruling coalition, while the center-left opposition has won the support of nearly 50% of this age group.
The overall approval rating of the government’s performance among citizens under 35 has fallen to 25%, compared to 35% among the country’s total population.
Analysts cite the lack of effective economic reforms to improve the labor market and education as the main reason for this disappointment, which is why Italy continues to have one of the lowest youth employment rates in the eurozone. The situation for Meloni is complicated both by the emergence of General Robert Vannacci’s new right-wing party, National Future (which is drawing in about 7% of the electorate), as well as tough security laws targeting juvenile crime, illegal gatherings, and protests. Youth discontent was already evident during the referendum on judicial reform, where 60% of young voters cast their ballots against the government’s initiatives.

Italy has begun conducting random checks on passengers arriving from Spain. This follows the decision by Giorgia Meloni’s government to temporarily reinstate border controls amid the migration crisis in Ceuta, Spain.
