Spotify launches track and audiobook notes in playlists

Spotify has launched the Playlist Notes feature, which allows users to add notes to tracks, podcast episodes, and audiobooks in their playlists, according to TechCrunch.

Notes can be added to playlists that a user owns or creates collaboratively with others. To do this in the mobile app, open a playlist, tap the three-dot menu next to the desired item, select the option to add a note, and save it. The note will be visible to everyone who has access to the playlist.

With this feature, listeners can add context to the content they’ve selected in a playlist—for example, to explain that a song reminds them of a specific person or event, or to recommend it to others. Playlist Notes builds on the User Notes feature that Spotify introduced last month for personal notes on individual tracks.

Spotify is also launching notes in its own editorial playlists. The service’s editors will be able to explain why they chose certain songs for the Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop playlists.

In addition, the company is launching Editor Profiles. These will feature the editor’s top tracks and albums, as well as the playlists they’re currently working on.

User Notes are gradually rolling out on iOS and Android devices in over 100 markets. Editor notes and profiles are being rolled out for free and premium users aged 16 and older in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
