Electric Mercedes-Benz GLC covers 632 km with a 17-minute charge — InsideEVs

The electric Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4Matic covered a 632 km route from the Hungarian city of Tata to Turracher Höhe in the Austrian Alps, stopping to charge for only 17 minutes. According to InsideEVs, the trip took place during the third stage of the Eurocharge by Schaeffler electric vehicle rally, which featured eight models.

About 80% of the distance was covered on motorways, mostly at a speed of 130 km/h. The crossover started with a fully charged battery and, after 308 km, arrived at the EnBW Smatrics charging station in Melk, Austria, with 31% charge remaining.

Charging during the lunch break

At a 400 kW charger, the GLC battery was charged from 31% to 81% in 17 minutes. The recorded peak charging power was 275 kW, while the average was 180 kW. During this time, 51 kWh of energy was added to the battery.

After the stop, the Mercedes-Benz covered another 324 km and arrived at the hotel with 7% charge remaining. The final part of the route ran along winding mountain roads, so it was not driven with maximum energy efficiency in mind. The vehicle's battery was recharged overnight.

Actual energy consumption

Average electricity consumption for the day was 21.4 kWh per 100 km. Given the usable battery capacity of 94 kWh, the publication calculated an approximate range under these conditions of 439 km on a full charge.

Mercedes claims a range of up to 673 km for the GLC 400 EV, but achieving this figure requires reducing consumption to 15.8 kWh per 100 km, avoiding high-speed roads, and driving on slower routes. Rally participants had different starting charge levels and used different charging strategies, so the results are not a controlled comparison of the models.
