Hyundai launches Ioniq V in China from $14,800 — InsideEVs

Hyundai has launched the Ioniq V electric vehicle on the Chinese market, with a starting price of about $14,800 under a time-limited offer. Without the promotional offer, the base version of the model costs approximately $16,500, InsideEVs reports.

Priced at the level of compact models

The Ioniq V belongs to the midsize vehicle segment and is roughly comparable in dimensions to the gasoline-powered Hyundai Sonata. At the same time, its price in China is at the level of compact and some subcompact electric vehicles made by local manufacturers. In particular, the publication compares the price of the new model with that of the compact BYD Dolphin.

The model became the first in a series of vehicles that Hyundai is developing in China for the local market. In April, at the Beijing Auto Show, Hyundai CEO José Muñoz stated the company's intention to remain on the Chinese market and strengthen its presence there.

Two batteries and 800-volt architecture

The Hyundai Ioniq V is offered with front-wheel drive and an electric motor producing 188 or 225 horsepower. The base version is equipped with a 53.5 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery and has a claimed range of 540 km. The more powerful version received a 66.8 kWh CATL battery with a claimed range of 650 km.

Both range figures are given under the Chinese CLTC cycle. The electric vehicle uses Hyundai's 800-volt E-GMP architecture, but the manufacturer has not disclosed charging times. The vehicle is also equipped with a driver assistance system developed with the involvement of Chinese company Momenta and a wide infotainment display based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip.
