Nissan plans to make E-Power and EREV its main powertrains by 2030 — InsideEVs

In the United States, Nissan plans to make E-Power models and future extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) its primary powertrain options in North and Latin America by 2030. InsideEVs reports, citing Nissan Americas Chair Christian Meunier.

Production localization

Initially, the hybrid Nissan Rogue E-Power will be supplied to the United States from Japan. In 2028, the company plans to begin producing this model at its plant in Smyrna, Tennessee.

According to Meunier, Nissan aims for the Rogue E-Power to fairly quickly account for 30% to 40% of total Rogue sales. He did not specify a timeframe for reaching this target.

New models

The Rogue E-Power will not be the brand's only hybrid model on the U.S. market. Nissan also intends to introduce a version of the subcompact Kicks crossover with an E-Power powertrain in the United States by 2028.

The article notes that Nissan has historically offered hybrids in the United States on a limited basis. The company previously produced the hybrid Nissan Altima in 2008–2010 and also briefly sold hybrid versions of the Infiniti QX60, Nissan Murano, and Nissan Pathfinder.

E-Power is a series hybrid system that uses a gasoline engine. InsideEVs notes that the batteries in such models have a small capacity, and Nissan also plans to develop EREV models.
