Demand for the manual transmission in the 911 GT3 influenced Porsche's decision regarding the Carrera S
Porsche will offer the Carrera S MT package with a manual transmission following increased demand from the brand’s online audience, customers, and dealers. A key factor in this decision was the high percentage of Porsche 911 GT3 Touring buyers who opt for a manual transmission.
Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, told Motor1 that the company is seeing growing demand for manual transmissions. According to him, the demand that Porsche anticipated and has actually seen for its current models in the U.S. market made the release of this version a sound business decision.
Resch reported that 80% of buyers of the 911 GT3 Touring opt for a manual transmission. This figure, along with feedback from customers, dealers, and online enthusiasts, formed the basis for discussions about the model among Porsche engineers and management. As a result, the company developed a case for launching the Carrera S MT Package.

Motor1 notes that other manufacturers also showcased manual transmissions at Monterey Car Week. McLaren unveiled the McL 6GT concept, inspired by the unfinished M6GT road car project of the brand’s founder, Bruce McLaren. The concept features a manual transmission and a hydraulic steering wheel, and McLaren plans to produce a production version of the car.
Hennessey also announced the Blackbird supercar, featuring a manual transmission and a naturally aspirated V8 producing 800–850 k. s. The company is targeting a curb weight of less than 3,000 pounds and a 0–60 mph time of 2.5 seconds.
