Tesla is officially ending production of the iconic Model S and Model X

Tesla announced that it would discontinue production of its flagship electric vehicles, the Model S and Model X, marking the end of an era in the industry.

Elon Musk and his team are transforming the brand’s strategy, shifting the focus from traditional cars to autonomous driving and robotics.

The Fremont factory, where these models were assembled, is set to be partially retooled for the company’s new priority projects.

The main areas of development will now be the Tesla Cybercab autonomous taxi and the mass production of Tesla Optimus humanoid robots.

Currently, Tesla is warning of limited stock of its flagship models, and orders have already been closed in some markets. For example, in South Korea, orders were suspended yesterday—March 31, 2026—with the cars designated as “final edition.”

“The Model S and Model X initiated the world’s transition to electric transportation and helped advance autonomous driving technology,” the company emphasized in an official letter.

These models laid the foundation for the success of the entire “SEXY” lineup, which made the brand a global leader.

Despite their advanced age, the technical specifications of these electric cars still impress experts and drivers alike. The top-of-the-line Tesla Model S Plaid has over 1,000 horsepower and accelerates to 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds.

The Tesla Model X crossover also demonstrates extreme performance, reaching 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. However, despite their speed, demand for them lags significantly behind the mass-market Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.

As a reminder, Lexus has unveiled an electric crossover with virtual gears and a new type of steering wheel.

American consumers envy affordable Chinese electric vehicles.

Additionally, global auto giants are refusing to make a full transition to electric vehicles.
