Aventon Level 3 e-bike tested in the US
In Oakland, California, an InsideEVs journalist tested the Aventon Level 3 urban e-bike for several months. Following the review, the model received positive marks for its power, range, comfort, and set of built-in features. The bike's recommended retail price is $1,899, but after the model was replaced by the updated Level 4, it can be found at third-party sellers at a discount.
Power and range
The Aventon Level 3 is a Class 2 e-bike: its speed is limited to 20 mph by default. Through the Aventon app, the maximum pedal-assist speed can be raised to 28 mph — the typical limit for road-legal Class 3 models in the US. A thumb throttle is also available, but regardless of the settings, it works only up to 20 mph.
The bike is equipped with a hub motor rated at 500 W, with peak power of 864 W. The review author mostly used Sport mode and got about 40 miles of range on a full charge. The manufacturer claims up to 70 miles of range from the removable 20 Ah battery; according to the tester, this figure can be achieved in Eco mode.

Equipment and drawbacks
Level 3 features include a front suspension fork, a suspension seatpost, hydraulic disc brakes, integrated front and rear lights, fenders, and a rear rack. According to the tester's observations, the torque sensor provides smooth and predictable power delivery while pedaling.
The mobile app allows users to adjust riding modes by changing pedal response and torque, configure rear-wheel locking after the bike is switched off, and track its GPS location. An alarm is also available, but during the test it reacted too sensitively to people moving nearby.
The author listed the absence of a bell or audible signal in the standard configuration among the drawbacks. In addition, the Level 3 weighs nearly 70 pounds, so it may be inconvenient for those who need to regularly carry the bike up stairs.
