Volkswagen unveils 322-hp electric ID.3 GTI
Volkswagen has unveiled the electric ID.3 GTI hatchback, which will replace the ID.3 GTX in the model lineup. According to Motor1, this is Volkswagen’s second electric vehicle to carry the GTI designation after the smaller ID. Polo GTI. Sales of the new model in Europe are expected to begin in spring 2027.
Power and range
The ID.3 GTI retains the rear electric motor with 322 hp and 545 Nm of torque that the ID.3 GTX had. The hatchback accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h.
In terms of power, the electric model surpasses the Golf GTI Edition 50 by one horsepower. Motor1 calls the ID.3 GTI the most powerful GTI developed by Volkswagen.
The car is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a usable capacity of 79 kWh. Volkswagen estimates the range at up to 601 km under the WLTP cycle, which is 10 km more than the ID.3 GTX. According to the company, 183 kW DC charging will replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes.

Rear-wheel drive and updated interior
The ID.3 GTI became the first Volkswagen vehicle with the GTI designation and rear-wheel drive. The model is built on the MEB+ platform and retains its rear-mounted electric motor. The ID. Polo GTI, by contrast, has a front-wheel-drive architecture.
The hatchback received an updated front end with red GTI accents, glossy black elements and vertical LED daytime running lights. A GTI badge has appeared on the front doors instead of the GTX designation. The model is fitted with 20-inch wheels and 225 mm-wide tires, while 235 mm-wide tires will be available at an extra cost.
The interior features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. Volkswagen also added physical buttons on the steering wheel, a volume control and separate switches for the rear windows. The ID.3 GTI will receive sporty front seats and red interior accents. A separate GTI mode activates launch control and an artificial engine sound.
