In Romania, Renault 5 covered 309 km on a mountain route without stopping to charge
The electric Renault 5 Roland Garros covered a 309 km route in Romania from Pitești to Alba Iulia through the Carpathians, including via the Transalpina road, without stopping to charge. The car took part in the first day of the annual Eurocharge by Schaeffler electric vehicle rally, organized by the Romanian publication Autocritica.
Energy consumption on the route
As InsideEVs reports, the recorded average electricity consumption of the Renault 5 was 12.7 kWh per 100 km. This corresponds to approximately 4.9 miles per kWh. According to the publication's calculation, given the battery's usable capacity of 52 kWh, this efficiency provides a theoretical range of 409 km.
This figure almost matches the model's official range under the WLTP cycle. At the same time, the calculation is theoretical, since the car was not fully discharged: the estimate was obtained by dividing the usable battery capacity by the recorded energy consumption.

Mountain ascent and motorway
The route mostly ran along national roads with a speed limit of 90 km/h. Another 18% of the journey was covered on a motorway at a speed of 130 km/h. The Renault 5 also climbed the Transalpina road, whose highest point is at an altitude of 2,145 meters, and then descended to lower elevations.
The trip took place in sunny weather and temperatures ranging from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius. The version used had a 148 hp electric motor and a battery with a total capacity of approximately 55 kWh, of which 52 kWh are usable. A version with a 40 kWh battery and a claimed WLTP range of up to 315 km is also available for the Renault 5.
