Volkswagen opens pre-orders for electric Polo GTI from €39,995 — Electrek

Volkswagen has opened pre-orders for the ID. Polo GTI, the brand’s first fully electric model to carry the GTI badge. The compact sporty hatchback starts at €39,995. Electrek reports.

The model’s launch was timed to mark the 50th anniversary of GTI. The ID. Polo GTI is front-wheel drive, like the first Golf GTI from 1976. The electric motor on the front axle produces 166 kW, or 222 hp, and 290 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is claimed at 6.8 seconds.

GTI mode and sporting equipment

A dedicated GTI driving profile was created for the electric vehicle and is activated by a button on the steering wheel. In this mode, the electric drive, steering and suspension are automatically adjusted for maximum performance and faster response. An electronically controlled front-axle differential lock distributes power between the front wheels, making cornering and manoeuvring easier.

On the outside, the ID. Polo GTI features elements characteristic of the lineup: a honeycomb pattern, a red stripe at the front and 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior has black trim with red accents, a GTI sports steering wheel and sports seats. The vehicle is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment display.

Range and dimensions

The hatchback uses a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery, which provides up to 431 km of range under the WLTP cycle. DC fast-charging power reaches 105 kW: charging from 10% to 80% is expected to take around 24 minutes.

The ID. Polo GTI is 4,096 mm long, 1,816 mm wide and 1,514 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,599 mm. With the rear seats folded, luggage compartment capacity reaches 1,240 litres. The base ID. Polo starts at €24,995, while Volkswagen plans to open pre-orders for the more powerful ID.3 GTI in early 2027.
