Kyiv has built 40 MW of cogeneration facilities equipped with secondary protection

City authorities report the successful completion of key distributed generation projects as part of the city’s energy security plan.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration.

New cogeneration plants with a total capacity of 40 MW are already operational and equipped with reliable second-level protection against potential enemy attacks.

Particular attention was paid to the stable operation of the city’s life support systems, particularly water supply.

To meet the needs of the water utility, the first powerful 5 MW diesel power complex was commissioned, which will allow pressure to be maintained in the networks even during blackouts.

According to Petr Panteleev, acting first deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, the overall strategy involves creating a robust power reserve.

“Overall, the plan calls for securing approximately 16 MW of backup power supply through diesel generator sets. To enhance efficiency, their operation will be supplemented by frequency converters,” the official emphasized.

Currently, the final stages of work are underway at technical sites across Kyiv across all strategic areas of the energy resilience plan.

Specialists are conducting final installation, commissioning, and comprehensive testing of the equipment to ensure its uninterrupted operation under critical conditions.

The project encompasses dozens of individual initiatives aimed at fully restoring energy equipment damaged during the shelling last winter.

The installation of appropriate protective structures is intended to minimize the impact of new attacks on the city’s energy infrastructure.

The development of a distributed generation model allows Kyiv to become more self-sufficient in terms of electricity and heat supply.

Instead of a few large CHP plants, energy will be generated at many smaller facilities, which significantly complicates the enemy’s task of destabilizing the system.
