Klitschko spoke about the prospects for the metro extension to Vinogradar and Troieshchyna
Kyiv city authorities are continuing major repairs and development of key transportation infrastructure projects in the capital, despite the challenging conditions of martial law. Currently, road and bridge builders are focusing their efforts on maintaining the city’s essential services and constructing new subway lines.
This was stated by the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, in an interview with the “Kyiv” TV channel.
The mayor paid special attention to the resumption of work on the Syretsko-Pecherska subway line, which is intended to connect the Vinogradar residential district with the city center. The mayor emphasized that construction crews have significantly accelerated the pace of work, as this route is of critical importance to hundreds of thousands of Kyiv residents. He noted that in today’s reality, the metro also serves a strategic security function as a round-the-clock shelter for citizens during airstrikes. According to Klitschko, several new stations in Vinogradar will be nearly completed in the very near future.
Speaking about the prospect of launching the legendary metro line to Troieshchyna, the mayor noted that the project’s implementation directly depended on the readiness of the Podil-Voskresensky Bridge. Currently, vehicular traffic has already been successfully opened on this long-delayed project, and three stations of the future new line have been fully constructed within the bridge’s structure. The next step is to construct the underground section of the tunnels. However, Klitschko openly acknowledged that due to resource shortages during the war, it is impossible to clearly predict the final completion date for this phase of the project. The authorities plan to finalize this project as quickly as possible immediately after Ukraine’s victory.
At the same time, a large-scale renovation of bridge structures is underway in Kyiv. Experts are currently carrying out urgent repair work on the Metro Bridge without completely blocking car and rail traffic. Klitschko also added that the city has independently begun the design and reconstruction of the dilapidated Paton Bridge. He criticized the relevant State Agency for Reconstruction, which had previously taken control of this structure to carry out repairs but, over a long period of time, failed to perform any work, returning the bridge to the community in even worse condition, causing the capital to lose precious time.
