Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has temporarily moved classes online due to the security situation
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is transitioning to a remote format for operations and the educational process starting September 29. Online instruction will continue through October 16, 2026, due to the deteriorating security situation in Kyiv.
“During this period, the educational process will take place using information and communication technologies in accordance with the approved schedules. Decisions regarding laboratory classes, internships, and assessments will be made by the heads of academic departments, taking into account the security situation. Information about changes will be communicated to students and faculty through the official channels of the departments and academic advisors,” the university’s statement reads.
It is noted that university staff will perform their duties remotely using email, educational platforms, and other means of communication.
Specifically, they must remain available during established working hours, and in the event of an emergency or if they are unable to work remotely due to technical limitations, they must notify their immediate supervisor.
Exceptions will be made for employees whose duties, by their nature, cannot be performed remotely, as well as on-call and emergency services involved in ensuring vital functions and protecting KNU facilities and property.
“Round-the-clock access to shelters will be provided in the university’s buildings and dormitories. Department heads have been instructed to maintain open lines of communication with employees and students, promptly inform them of decisions made, and ensure the safety of important documents and data,” the statement reads.
In recent days, similar announcements regarding remote work have been published by a number of other universities in the capital.

As a reminder, Kyiv will spend nearly 280 million hryvnias on the restoration of the Central Civil Registry Office.
Kyivpastrans plans to purchase mobile shelters, but not anytime soon.
Earlier, Klitschko complained that it is impossible to officially use mobile shelters in the capital because no state building codes (DBN) have been developed for them.
