A man opened fire in Kyiv while testing his pistol
In Kyiv, a 42-year-old man was notified that he was suspected of disorderly conduct after he opened fire in the courtyard of an apartment complex. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the capital.
The incident occurred on Kaunas Street. A resident of a high-rise building contacted the police to report gunshots in the courtyard.
Law enforcement officers determined that the man was intoxicated and had fired five shots into the air from a starter pistol, frightening residents of nearby buildings. At the scene, police detained the suspect and seized the starter pistol and ammunition from him.
“The offender explained his actions by saying that he had decided to test whether his pistol was in working order. While intoxicated, the man took out the weapon and fired five shots into the air, greatly alarming residents of nearby high-rise buildings,” the police stated.
Investigators notified the man that he is suspected of violating Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism). The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
