A woman will stand trial in Kyiv for keeping a wolf and a fox in her apartment

In Kyiv, a case has been filed against a 56-year-old woman who, according to the prosecutor’s office, kept a wolf, a fox, and dogs in her apartment under inappropriate conditions. She is charged with animal cruelty, which carries a sentence of up to three years in prison. The investigation has already completed the main part of the inquiry and sent the indictment to court.

A court in Kyiv will hear the case of a 56-year-old resident of Obolon, who is accused of animal cruelty for keeping a wild wolf, a fox, and several dogs in her apartment. According to the prosecutor’s office, the animals were kept in conditions that did not meet their needs, and the apartment itself had effectively turned into a confined space for wild predators, posing risks to both them and people.

The investigation established that the woman had kept the animals in her home in Obolon for a long time, while actively posting videos on social media showing their living conditions. Specifically, the wolf was kept in a cramped cage, and the fox was on the balcony without proper care, veterinary assistance, or adequate nutrition.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the situation reached a critical point when, in December 2025, the wolf attacked the owner, causing injuries to her arm and thigh. After the incident, animal rights activists removed the animal from the apartment, and a dead fox was also found in the residence, having died due to prolonged exposure to inadequate conditions. “The animal died due to prolonged life in unsuitable conditions—without veterinary care and proper nutrition,” the investigation materials state.

Law enforcement officials charged the woman under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The indictment has already been sent to court, which will determine the extent of her liability.

If found guilty, the woman faces up to three years in prison. The case has drawn significant attention due to the unusual circumstances of keeping wild animals in a residential apartment and the consequences of such cohabitation. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.
