The historic fence surrounding the Baikov Cemetery in Kyiv was torn down
In Kyiv, the red-brick fence surrounding the Baikov Cemetery, built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, has been dismantled. Previously, city authorities had promised to repair the wall, and in July they signed a contract for a major renovation of the fence and landslide prevention work worth 46.46 million hryvnias.
According to Perov, on July 8, 2026, city authorities signed an agreement with Spetsbud-Technolodzhi LLC for a major renovation of the wall, including landslide prevention measures, worth 46.46 million hryvnias. The contract was awarded without a competitive bidding process. Despite the fact that the Baikove Cemetery has the status of a national historic site, the contractor does not have any certified restoration specialists. The activist suspects that instead of authentically restoring the masonry, a new fence will be erected at this site.
