The remains of Peter Stolypin, Prime Minister of the Russian Empire, will remain at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra at least until the end of the war. This decision is based on requests from his descendants and the stance that the burial site should be preserved as a historical monument. The reserve emphasizes that this issue is not currently a priority for review.

In Kyiv, there are no plans to move the remains of Tsarist Russia’s Prime Minister Pyotr Stolypin until at least the end of the war, and they will remain on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra as part of a historic burial site. This was stated by Maksym Ostapenko, director of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.

According to him, the issue of the burial site’s future was raised as early as 2023, but it has now effectively been put on hold due to a series of appeals from Stolypin’s descendants. “In 2023, the issue of returning Stolypin to the Russian Empire was raised. Currently, Stolypin’s great-grandson, who holds a pro-Ukrainian stance, has appealed to the President of Ukraine and presented his arguments, requesting that Stolypin’s remains not be disturbed after all,” Ostapenko noted.

He added that a consensus has now emerged to treat the burial site as a historical landmark that will not be altered for the time being. “There is currently an unspoken consensus that this is a historical site—a burial site—and that we should leave it alone until the end of the war,” said the director of the reserve.

He also noted that there have been appeals from people who support Ukraine and European values and have family ties to Stolypin, and they, too, advocate for preserving the burial site’s status during this period.

As a reminder, Russia attacked the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, causing a fire.

Prior to that, Russian drones struck the Zaporizhzhia region, resulting in injuries.

As a result of the Russian attack on Kharkiv, five State Emergency Service rescuers were killed.
