Air quality has deteriorated in Obukhov and Brovary following the Russian Federation's attack

On the morning of September 27, air quality temporarily deteriorated in Obukhiv and Brovary in the Kyiv region following a Russian attack. In Brovary, a drone debris strike caused a fire at an industrial facility, resulting in heavy smoke in the area. Experts advise keeping windows closed for now and spending less time outdoors.

Following an overnight attack by Russian drones in the Kyiv region, a deterioration in air quality was recorded in certain areas, specifically Brovary and Obukhiv. This temporary decline is attributed to the aftermath of the Russian attack.

In Brovary, near the industrial zone, a fire broke out at one of the factories due to debris from a downed drone. The fire released a significant amount of fine particulate matter and combustion products into the air. Fine particulate matter is currently the main source of air pollution in these areas.

Prolonged exposure can cause breathing difficulties. Children, the elderly, and people with cardiovascular diseases or sensitivity to irritants may be particularly vulnerable.

How to Protect Yourself

Experts advise keeping windows closed until the situation improves. It is also best to avoid spending long periods of time outdoors. It’s important to drink plenty of water. If you have an air purifier at home, it’s recommended to set it to the highest setting. In Brovary, Mayor Ihor Sapozhko previously urged residents to limit their time outdoors due to heavy smoke following a fire at a local factory.

Are there air quality issues in other areas?

At the same time, in other settlements in the Kyiv region where monitoring is being conducted, no exceedances of permissible levels of chemical and biological substances in the ambient air have been recorded.

Gamma radiation levels in the Kyiv region also correspond to natural background levels. In other words, the deterioration in air quality is currently localized and temporary. Experts continue to monitor the readings and the situation following the Russian attack. This was reported via Telegram by the Kyiv City Military Administration and Brovary Mayor Ihor Sapozhko.

In Brovary, Kyiv Oblast, a fire broke out at an industrial facility after debris from a downed Russian drone fell on the premises. The fire occurred in the industrial zone. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.

In Kyiv’s Solomyanskyi District, debris was reported to have struck an educational institution following a Russian attack. Information regarding the extent of the damage and possible casualties is being verified.
