Actor Shin Hyun-joon draws crowd of fans in Peru — Korea Herald
South Korean actor Shin Hyun-joon arrived in Peru on September 12 to meet with fans. At Jorge Chávez Airport, he was greeted by dozens of fans carrying gifts and letters. Security personnel were deployed to maintain order due to the crowd, Korea Herald reports.
After arriving, the 57-year-old actor addressed fans in Spanish on social media. He thanked everyone who came to the airport and apologized that he was unable to shake hands and take photos with each person.
Popularity thanks to an old drama
A Korean drama, “Stairway to Heaven,” which aired on SBS in 2003, brought Shin a new wave of popularity in South America. In the series, he played Han Tae-hwa, a character devoted to Han Jung-seo, portrayed by Choi Ji-woo.
In Latin America, the series was aired in 2006 with Spanish dubbing under the title “Escalera al cielo.” Earlier this year, the drama reappeared on local television and streaming platforms, gaining an audience among younger viewers and renewing the interest of those who had watched it before.

Meeting in Lima and further tour
In Lima, Shin Hyun-joon held the “Memories to Heaven” fan meeting at the Auditorio Colegio Melitón Carvajal. During the event, he revisited the theme of “Stairway to Heaven” with those present through the series’ soundtrack and shared stories connected with it. This was the second such meeting; the first took place in November last year.
After Peru, the actor plans to continue the tour with fan meetings in Ecuador and Argentina. Shin made his film debut in 1990 in “Son of the General” and subsequently appeared in films and television series, including “Guns & Talks,” “Barefoot Ki-bong,” and the “Marrying the Mafia” film series.
The publication also notes that older Korean works are gaining new international audiences thanks to streaming platforms. In particular, the 2007 fantasy film “D-War,” after appearing on Netflix, ranked sixth in the platform’s global film chart on September 10, according to FlixPatrol, and remained among the ten most popular titles the following day.
