Alina Grosu explained why she returned to Ukraine from the U.S. during the war

Ukrainian singer Alina Grosu explained why she decided to return to Ukraine from the U.S. during a full-scale war. The artist had been living in America for some time, but after the birth of her first child, Mark-Gabriel, she decided to stay in her homeland.

“I came back here even before giving birth. At this stage in my life, I believe it’s very important for me that my child grows up in a large, loving family. My whole family is in Ukraine now, and I want him to be surrounded not only by his parents, but also by his grandfather, grandmother, aunts, uncles, and great-grandmothers—he even has two of them. I think it will be psychologically safer for my son this way. And, of course, he’ll learn the language faster and better,” the singer said. 

The singer also noted that it’s important to her for Marko-Gabriel to know Ukrainian traditions and feel a close connection to his family.

“I like a lot about our mindset, especially the one that prevails in my family. I want my child to adopt some of our traditions and feel that connection to the family. I also like our elementary education system. I look at how my brother is doing in school, how many languages he’s learning, what opportunities we can give him, and, of course, I want my little one to grow up right here in Ukraine,” Alina Grosu emphasized.

According to the artist, her family was one of the main factors in her decision to stay in Ukraine after her son was born.

Grosu believes it is important for Marko-Gabriel to grow up surrounded by loved ones, to become familiar with Ukrainian traditions, and to hear his native language from an early age.

Despite having lived in the U.S. for a time, Alina Grosu now sees her son’s future as being in Ukraine.
