Bangkok will host the first-ever "Eurovision Asia" contest
Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has been selected as the host city for the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia, with the final scheduled for November 14, 2026.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) officially announced this, calling the event the largest expansion of the brand in its history. According to contest director Martin Green, the launch of the project in the Asia-Pacific region aims to unlock the immense creative potential and cultural diversity of this part of the world.
Ten countries have already confirmed their participation in the first show, including South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia. The contest’s television audience is expected to exceed 600 million viewers, making it one of the largest music projects on the planet. The launch of the Asian version is timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the original Eurovision. Although attempts to create such a format have been ongoing for over a decade and were repeatedly postponed due to organizational difficulties, in 2026 the idea of cultural unity through music will finally reach a new regional level.
On March 11, all participants in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2026, which will take place on May 14 in Vienna, were announced. The Ukrainian band Leleka will compete for a spot in the contest’s final alongside strong rivals.
